Job Summary:

The Surgical Assistant provides critical support during surgical procedures by assisting surgeons with operative tasks, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining sterile environments. This role requires certification as a surgical assistant or first assistant and involves collaboration with the surgical team to facilitate efficient and effective surgical care.

Responsibilities:

• Assist surgeons during surgical procedures by handling instruments and performing supportive tasks.
• Maintain sterile field and ensure surgical environment safety and cleanliness.
• Prepare and organize surgical instruments and supplies prior to procedures.
• Collaborate with surgical team members to optimize patient outcomes.
• Adhere to established protocols and guidelines for surgical assistance and patient care.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent education and training.
• Current certification as a first assistant (CFA), surgical assistant (CSA), or assistant in surgery by one of the following: National Board of Surgical Technology and Assisting (NBSTSA), National Surgical Assistant Association (NSAA), American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA), or National Assistant at Surgery Council (NASC).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at the Healthcare Professional level.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Prior experience as a First Assistant or Surgical Assistant.

Special Considerations:

• Work is performed in an operating room environment requiring strict adherence to sterile techniques and safety protocols.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule and shift assignments will be determined based on surgical case needs and facility policies.
